RUGBY League news update 1/24

St Helens ace wants board of directors to support new body

England international Jon Wilkin has called on the RFL to recognise the newly-formed Super League Players Association.

The 30-year-old St Helens forward has been unveiled as chairman of 1eagu3, a body formed to represent the rights of Super League players.

And although 1eagu3 chief executive Ernie Benbow has said the organisation will press ahead with or without backing from the game's governing body, Wilkin is confident they will get their support when the RFL board of directors meet on Tuesday.

"The RFL will see the benefit of forming a relationship with us, I've got no doubt about that," he said.

"It's for the benefit of the game and the RFL will see that.

"Nobody cares more about the game than us. The association wants to sit down with the RFL and talk about all matters.

"We'd like the RFL to really appreciate that what we're doing here is a positive step." - http://www1.skysports.com/
