Armitage disappoints Lancaster

Interim coach still confident players are embracing his philosophy

England head coach Stuart Lancaster admits he felt let down by Delon Armitage after learning of the London Irish star's arrest for alleged assault, but is confident his new-look England are embracing his philosophy and onus on improved discipline.

Armitage was suspended from the England Saxons Elite Player Squad on Monday after it was revealed he was taken in by Devon & Cornwall Police in the early hours of Sunday morning after a fracas at a nightclub.

Following a World Cup campaign under Martin Johnson that was blighted by a series of off-field misdemeanors, England's interim head coach Lancaster was quick to set out his plans for improved conduct and attitude from the players he chose to represent their country.

Armitage's arrest comes hot on the heels of that of Danny Care who subsequently admitted a charge of drink driving on New Year's Day.

But despite those setbacks, Lancaster has been buoyed by the response of his players to his demands for higher standards of conduct both on and off the pitch and feels the squad are on the right track. - http://www1.skysports.com/
