Cooper impressed with O'Connor

Quade Cooper has praised James O'Connor for his performance at fly-half in the demolition of the Barbarians on Saturday.

O'Connor normally plays on the wing but he was named at number ten for the Twickenham match because Cooper is currently sidelined as the result of the knee ligament injury he suffered in the World Cup bronze medal match against Wales.

With Cooper set to be sidelined for six months O'Connor may have to get used to life at fly-half but he showed plenty of skill as he contributed 20 points in the 60-11 victory over the Baa Baas.

Cooper was an interesting spectator of the match and he was impressed with how his team-mate adapted to the change in positions.

"He did great and it was great to see him play with a lot of confidence," Cooper told AAP

"Coming in off the wing was something that he wanted to do to get his hands on the ball more and to see him running around - making breaks left, right and centre - it was good."

O'Connor is set to be retained at fly-half when the Wallabies meet Wales at the Millennium Stadium at the weekend and Cooper has warned that he will find much tougher against Warren Gatland's men.

"It's a different kettle of fish. It's going to be a whole new level up against the Welsh in front of a passionate crowd but James will definitely rise to that occasion," Cooper explained.

"They've just got to soak it up and still play running rugby." - http://www.setanta.com
