Rugby news 12BET update 12/07

Kingsholm for Ireland and Baa Baas

Ireland will face the Barbarians at Kingsholm on May 29 2012.

The home of Gloucester Rugby was the venue when Ireland defeated the Baa Baas in 2008 and the ground has been chosen once more to host the 2012 meeting between the sides.

"Gloucester’s Kingsholm ground is a great venue to showcase the history of the Barbarians. Gloucester Rugby have previously hosted this fixture against Ireland and it was something the rugby public really got behind and supported – we are delighted to be back at this rugby hotbed again," Barbarians commercial director Mike Burton said.

As well as hosting the Barbarians, Kingsholm saw Gloucester play the Wallabies in November 2009, while Samoa and Georgia both played fixtures at the venue during the 2010-11 season.

"I would like to express our excitement at welcoming the Barbarians and Ireland back to Kingsholm," Gloucester's managing director Ken Nottage added.

"The previous time these teams played here in Gloucester, it very much marked the start of a new era here at the club.

"We've now hosted a number of international fixtures here at the stadium but a Barbarians match is always a special one. It would be fantastic to get the tremendous backing of our supporters to illustrate the region's ever growing commitment to supporting the game at all levels."

The Baa Baa's clash will be Ireland's final warm-up match before they head to New Zealand for a three-Test tour. - http://www.setanta.com
