Deans backs Wales for success

Australia coach Robbie Deans is giving his backing to Wales to lift the 2012 RBS 6 Nations Championship crown.

Deans’ side defeated the Welsh 24-18 in Cardiff on Saturday, just two months after they also beat them in the third place playoff at the World Cup in New Zealand.

However, both games were tight tussles and Deans says that he has seen enough in Warren Gatlland’s men to predict that there will be some very good times ahead for the squad.

The Wallabies’ cause on Saturday was helped hugely by the sin-binning of Leigh Halfpenny, as the men from Down Under ruthlessly notched up three tries while he watched on.

Deans says that wth a full compliment, and the swashbuckling approach that they take to the game, Wales will claim success sooner rather than later.

"They play a great brand of football and have a lot of young talent coming through, "the WRU website quotes Deans as saying.

“Wales play an exciting brand of football so I see no reason why they can't win the 6 Nations."

Deans also heaped praise on Shane Williams, who scored a late try on Saturday in what was his final game in Wales colours.

"It was a nice way for him to finish, though I wasn't excited at the time!" the Australia boss added.

"But then I saw who it was and he deserved that moment. Shane is a once in a generation player, see what he's achieved in the game. He deserves every acknowledgement that he gets.

"Shane's a quality bloke and it's great to see his family out there enjoying the moment. He's been a credit to the game of rugby and hopefully our guys at the front end of their careers have the good fortune to play as long as Shane has.

"He leaves a legacy that a lot of players will aspire to in Welsh rugby. It's good for the game and we wish him well." - http://www.setanta.com
