RUBY news 12bet update 12/18

More heartbreak for Connacht

Connacht travelled to Kingsholm seeking their maiden win in the Heineken Cup and for most of this Pool 6 encounter it looked like a shock was on the cards but Jonny May's late try proved crucial as the hosts ran out undeserved and unconvincing 23-19 winners.

Adrian Flavin's missed tackle five minutes from time allowed substitute May in and Freddie Burns' exquisite conversion ensured the spoils went the way of the Aviva Premiership outfit.

Tim Taylor was the first player to trouble the scorekeeper - the out-half slotted a fourth minute penalty but Connacht hit back when Tiernan O'Halloran, impressive with ball in hand throughout, collected George Naoupu's offload to put the Irish province in charge after 11 minutes.

Niall O'Connor added the extras after missing an earlier penalty attempt to push Eric Elwood's men 7-3 ahead.

Taylor went over for Gloucester's first try on 20 minutes after spottin a gap in Connacht's backline, a gap he exploited with aplomb.

Two further penalties from O'Connor saw Connacht take a 13-10 lead into the break and five minutes into the second-half their lead stretched to six thanks to another O'Connor penalty.

Burns narrowed the gap to three after 57 minutes and 11 minutes later the sides were level, Burns with another sublime kick.

Four minutes later O'Connor pushed the visitors ahead - 19-16 - but that's as close as the men from west of the Shannon came to winning as May intervened to break Irish hearts, again. - http://www.setanta.com
