Quins spoil Connacht debut

Harlequins beat Connacht 25-17 at the Stoop, as the province's debut in the Heineken Cup ended in defeat.

The English premiership leaders recorded their eleventh victory in eleventh games this season, but they were outscored by two tries to one, and needed the accurate kicking of Nick Evans to ensure Quins took four points from the Pool 6 game.

Quins were 6-3 up after ten minutes, with Evans kicking two penalties to Miah Nikora's one, but then Eric Elwood's team scored their first try of the night, with Tiernan O'Halloran getting Connacht's first Heineken Cup try, after being fed by Eoin Griffith on the edge of the 22.

Nikora added the conversion to make it 10-7, but Quins went into the break 19-10 up, after two more penalties from Evans, and a converted try from Karl Dickson from close range, after he was set up by Jordan Turner Hall.

Gavin Duffy brought it back to a two-point game with a 25-metre run to the line following a superb pass from replacement fly-half Niall O'Connor, who added the extras.

However, Evans showed poise to kick two more penalties to ensure that Harlequins' 50th Heineken Cup game ended in victory.- http://www.setanta.com
