Henry backs McCaw for honour

Graham Henry is confident that Richie McCaw will receive a knighthood at some point in the future.

World Cup winning coach Henry was knighted in the New Year’s Honour’s List for services for rugby.

McCaw, meanwhile, had been formally approached by New Zealand prime minister John Key regarding an honour, but turned down the offer, stating that he would not be comfortable with an award or formal title whilst still playing.

However, Henry believes that McCaw, who led the All Blacks to World Cup glory last year, will eventually be honoured.

"He is a young fella and he has a few years ahead of him playing rugby," he said.

"He will probably feel uncomfortable about that (being knighted), particularly when he is captaining the side and is still playing rugby.

"But I am sure his time will come." - http://www.setanta.com
