Shane Horgan's come back early part of 2012 12bet news update 11/08

Shane Horgan hopes to be back playing for Leinster in the early part of 2012.

Horgan was a notable absentee from Leinster's initial squad for the Heineken Cup after he damaged the patella tendon in his knee during the Magners League final defeat to Munster.

He was forced to undergo surgery to repair the damage but his rehabilitation has not gone according to plan, resulting in the 33-year-old winger to seek a second opinion.

Another operation beckons but he remains confident that he will be ready to return to action in early 2012.

"I had surgery the next week after the Munster game, so I have been out with it for six months pretty much and it just wasn't responding the way I wanted," Horgan told the Meath Chronicle.

"I attended another tendon specialist, a Swedish guy and he recommended more surgery on it.

"The real issue was the last game of the season against Munster. That's where I really damaged it and after that I got the surgery, but now it needs more.

I'm very optimistic now and after rehabilitation I hope I'll be back in the New Year. I'd certainly be looking to play after Christmas. You know the way surgeons are, they are always hopeful."  - http://www.setanta.com
