Welsh pair in Six Nations race

Wales pair Alun Wyn Jones and Luke Charteris are in danger of missing the upcoming Six Nations Championship due to injury.

Both players were absent from the Wales squad for Saturday’s Test against Australia at the Millennium Stadium and there are fears that they will not be fit in time for the start of the Six Nations on February 5.

Jones could miss the opener against Ireland after undergoing surgery on a dislocated toe, while Charteris may be forced to have an operation on a wrist problem.

"We have sent him to the surgeon," Gatland said of Charteris.

"He potentially needs an operation on that wrist. It is the same operation that Jamie Roberts had so potentially he is out for five months."

With both players considered doubtful for the Six Nations, coach Warren Gatland has taken the opportunity to recall Ian Evans to the Wales squad for Saturday's test.

"It is very good to see Ian back given the potential that both Alun Wyn Jones and Luke Charteris could both be out for the Six Nations as well," confirmed Gatland.

"So it is nice to have someone of that quality and ability back into the squad." - http://www.setanta.com
